Water, water, everywhere.

The App Store and Android Marketplace have a shortage of firefighting games, particularly ones that take place on Saturn's largest moon, Titan.

Thankfully, Mediocre AB stepped in to fill the void with Sprinkle, one of the most intelligently designed, graphically pleasing and wonderful apps we've played in quite some time.

This delightful puzzler puts you in control of a water cannon attached to a crane, where it's your job to put out fires and save adorable aliens from destruction.

Each stage presents a unique challenge, where simply dousing the flames won't be enough. Later, you must use water to activate windmills, hit switches and slide various objects around to create bridges and plug holes to deliver water in hard to reach areas.

Speaking of water, this is without question the most realistic H2O we've seen in a mobile game. The wet stuff sloshes around, forms in pools and obeys the laws of gravity.

The same goes for fire. Leave just a bit, and it slowly turns into a raging inferno that consumes every straw hut in its path. It's really something, and the developers deserve major kudos for this phenomenal achievement.

The same goes for the game as a whole. We absolutely love almost everything about Sprinkle, from the quirky music to the innovative play. It's definitely right up there with the best the App Store has to offer.

On the downside, and this is a minor issue, you can't change screen orientation, which puts the headphone plug (if you choose to use headphones) in an awkward spot. We'll cross our fingers that Mediocre AB fixes this with an update.

That aside, Sprinkle is both fun and visually stimulating, a game that should be in everyone's collection. The fact that it costs $0.99 ($1.99 on Android with 24 additional levels) means you have no excuse.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
