EA hopes to restore option in the future.

Players of the enormously popular mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out can no longer steal a friend's lemon tree. The lemon tree, rewarded occasionally from a mystery box, confers $200 and 20 XP every six hours upon the owner. After 24 hours, it could be stolen by a visiting friend for their own benefit.

A statement on EA's The Simpsons: Tapped Out FAQ explains the situation:

"The Lemon Tree is currently disabled and cannot be stolen at this time," it reads.

"Sorry! We do hope to get this ability restored in the future, but at this time we cannot estimate when that may be. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and we greatly appreciate your patience."

We can only speculate as to why the option to steal a friend's lemon tree was removed, but as mystery boxes can be purchased with real-world cash, it may break Apple's in-app purchase rules. We'll let you know if and when the option is reinstated.
