All the help you need to master this fantastic platform puzzle game.
Yesterday, we reviewed 11 Bit Studios' excellent Sleepwalker's Journey, a mesmerizing and surreal platform game that challenges players to guide a sleepwalking boy across a perilous landscape towards the safety of his bed.
We've been completely absorbed in the game every since we got our hands on it. Here are our top hints and tips for mastering this magical mobile game.
How can I get every star and moon?
We strongly recommend focusing first on completing a level successfully before worrying about getting every last collectible. There's plenty of puzzling going on just to achieve a basic solution, so focus on understanding how to make a successful first pass.
I've made a mistake. How can I correct it?
There's a very handy option to rewind time whenever you fall off the screen entirely so don't be afraid to use it! A gentle tap will take you back to just before your accident, but you can hold it down to rewind time even further.
If you can see you've got no way out of disaster, you don't need to wait for your character to suffer before taking action! Hit the rewind icon at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen if you know there's no chance of success!
How do I get a perfect score on a level?
There are three criteria for getting a perfect award for each of the levels in Sleepwalker's Journey. First of all, you need to gather every single star on the stage. Then, you need to collect all three crescent moons, and these are usually tucked away in the trickiest of places. Finally, you need to beat the level within the time limit set for each stage.
How can I avoid taking damage while falling?
Your sleepwalker can't fall from any height at all without taking damage. To avoid this, you either need to raise a platform, or angle a cutlass to provide a walking platform for him. Alternatively, you can draw a line between the light green hooks to create a tightrope. This will not only keep him on the screen, but it's also the only surface he can land on from a fall without taking damage.
Note that if the sleepwalker falls towards a fan, the breeze will protect him and keep him afloat. Just make sure you've turned it on with a tap of the screen first!
How should I approach solving each level?
Most of the challenges in Sleepwalker's Journey can be solved more easily by breaking the level down into its component parts. Try not to worry about platform areas above and below you that you can't reach yet, just focus on the next two or three platform sections ahead.
Once you've mastered the basics of a level, you can always make another attempt to try and grab every star and moon.
How do the fans work in Sleepwalker's Journey?
In order to use a fan, you'll have to first turn it on. Once the sleepwalker wanders into its stream, he'll be lifted up vertically, so make sure you slide any obstructive platforms out of the way first. Touch the fan again and the breeze will stop and cause him to fall. Once he's reached the maximum possible height, he'll carry on walking in the same direction, so make sure you've laid out the next platform piece for him.
Why did my unicycle disappear?
If you're on your unicycle and pass by a sign that has a walking symbol on it, you'll automatically be put back on your feet! If you need the cycle to bounce towards a tricky moon pieces, try to think of a way of bypassing that sign before it's too late. If in doubt, rewind time.
