What we hope to discover in the next chapter of this mysterious iOS game.
At the end of November, developer Gameday released the fourth chapter of its hugely popular room-escape game, Doors & Rooms. We're big fans of the game and have already exhausted all four current chapters, bringing you a series of walkthroughs along the way. We've been promised new content for the game later on this month, and these are the five biggest improvements we'd like to see from the Chapter 5 update.
More logical puzzles
It took a little while for Gameday to find their feet when it came to designing puzzles that struck a good balance between logical satisfaction and complexity for the sake of it. The pool room puzzle in Chapter 4 is a perfect example of how a puzzle should unfold, as you explore and examine collectible objects to gradually tease away at the challenge. More like this in Chapter 5 please.
A better hint system
Anyone who's slogged their way through the four current chapters of Doors & Rooms will have likely dipped into the hints system at one time or another. While the developers have to make their money off hint purchases, we still think they could be a little clearer. Rather than having to unlock every level hint to make real progress, we'd like those early hint tiers to be a little more useful.
While we love the ominous tone that accompanies the start of each level, we can't help but think the game could be improved immeasurably with some ambient music to ratchet up the tension. It doesn't need to be extravagant, just a little something extra to keep the pressure piled on.
More time-based puzzles
One of the puzzles we enjoyed the most in Doors & Rooms occurred early on in the very first chapter. With an ominous ticking sound in the background, you knew something bad was about to happen, and soon. The frantic exploration of the room to first discover the ticking dynamite, then stash it safely in the strongbox was simple but very satisfying to solve at a first attempt.
More bonus rooms
With each chapter having its own style and theme, we loved the addition of extra puzzles for the first two chapters. Will the Chapter 5 update introduce new content for the third and fourth chapters? We hope so, as we'd love to revisit some of the older escape challenge scenarios. With the experience gained through developing the superior later chapters, we reckon Gameday could cook up something special to spice up the earlier adventures.
