Been there, spelled that.
One of the downsides of mobile game success is the copycats hoping to grab a piece of the action; others refer to this as imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. That said, none are as blatant as What's the Word? 4 Pics 1 Word from LOTUM. For starters, half of its title is a direct rip off RedSpell's immensely popular What's the Word?, which is currently one of the biggest titles for smartphones and tablets. Here's the kicker: it plays almost exactly the same.
As the title implies, the game features a variety of puzzles, each of which places four photographs onto the screen and asks players to figure out the word that connects the images together. Gamers do this using 12 jumbled letters, tapping each to put it in place. Answer correctly, and they receive a small number of gold coins for their trouble before moving onto the next brainteaser.
How does it all work? Example: a fish, a fishhook, cooked fish and a pier. What do these pics have in common? Four letters: F-I-S-H. Yes, the answer is at times that obvious. Other times, you'll scratch your head in confusion.
Thankfully, you can spend those aforementioned coins to either remove a letter or reveal a letter, both of which cost 90 coins a piece. It's a slow climb to afford these hints, and that being the case, LOTUM will gladly sell you more through in app purchase for varying amounts.
That's really all there is to it, and quite frankly, we can't hate on What's the Word: 4 Pics 1 Word too much. Yes, it's a mirror image of What's the Word?, and we can certainly debate whether this is or is not an issue. At the same time, it's an entertaining game, and App Store reviewers appear satisfied. Considering both titles are free, that only means more puzzles for you.
What's Hot:Large variety of puzzles, the ability to get help through Facebook, in-app purchase for more coins.
What's Not:Shamelessly copies What's the Word?
