submitted by MUDKIP2495posted December 19, 2008Pokemon Mystery dungeon is a good game for everyone of all ages and helps newcomers to get used to Pokemon games.
Your Character
At the beginning of the the game you will be asked if you're a boy(borders in the game will be blue) or a girl(borders will be pink) and will the take a personality test to confirm what pokemon you are.
the possible pokemon are:
All starter pokemon
eevee
machop
cubone
skitty
psyduck
pikachu
Your Partner
when you have determined your character.
Your partner can be any of the starter pokemon, apart from the ones which are the same type as your character(e.g if you are squirtle you will not be able to have mudkip, totodile or squirtle as a partner).
Rescue team?
In the game you will form a rescue team with another pokemon.
This means that throughout the game you will get mail asking you to do a mission such as rescuing a pokemon or escorting a pokemon to another pokemon,delivering an item or to retrieving an item, there will be different difficulties of missions depending on where the mission is and what type of mission you want to do. For completing a mission you will get a reward such as money, an item or even a new friend area.
Friend Areas
Throughout the game you will need to recruit more pokemon onto your rescue team to do this you will need to buy a friend area compatible with the pokemon you want to recruit, then go to the dungeon where that pokemon is fight it, beat it, and see if it will join you, pokemon will not always join, so you will have to carry on beating it until it will join you.some friend areas you can not buy, and will have to get it by completing a mission, or some friend areas come with a pokemon, but only some of the legendaries.
The Beginning
You will be woken up by your partner to find out you have been turned into a pokemon! You will then talk to your partner until a butterfree comes to tell you that her baby caterpie has fallen into a fissure! You must save caterpie with your partner.
After this you will form a rescue team with your partner!
Main Story
In the world of Pokemon lots of natural disasters (like fissures and hurricanes) have occurring due to an evil trainer who has been turned into a pokemon-you?...Maybe-this has damaged earth's balance, and it's up to you and your partner to restore it!
You will cross harsh lands, forests, caves, skies, seas and volcanoes with your partner as a rescue team and even as fugitives and meet lots of pokemon on the way!
After Story
Even if you've completed the main story there's still loads to do,
Have you recruited every pokemon onto your team?Have you got every friend area? Have you reached the highest possible rescue rank?Have you completed the makuhita
training dojo?Have you evolved all of your pokemon?Only when you have done these and much more will you have truly completed the game.
Summing Up
It's a great game which will keep you entertained for a while, unfortunately after the main story it's easy to get a little bored.

It’s a dungeon crawler, or more specifically, Nethack, with Pokemon. There have been many disappointed reviewers and players who expected a typical Pokemon game and was disappointed at what Mystery Dungeon was. For those who come into the game without bias, a decent amount of enjoyment could be had.
The story begins with a series of questions to be answered by the player. Once the player answers these questions, a pokemon matching the answers of the questions is chosen to be the player character. Why the player wakes up as a pokemon is unknown in the beginning of the game. The rest of the story consists of the player forming a rescue group to help other pokemon with various tasks in the dungeons and saving the village from some mysterious doom.
Those familiar with rogue-like games such as Nethack will feel right at home about the dungeons. Each move counts as a turn, so exploring the dungeon and fighting are all turn based. Instead of being brought to a separate fighting screen, players fight enemies in the same top-down perspective used in exploring. In addition to a partner pokemon which the player can choose in the beginning, other pokemon can be recruited to fight in the party. Players can only control their own Pokemon and other pokemon in the team are controlled by given general orders such as “Stick by me” or “Attach enemies.” There is a learning curve to overcome for those who are expecting a regular turn based Pokemon battle.
The music and sound effects are forgettable, which could be good or bad. It’s possible to play the game with the volume turned off without missing much. But at the same time, the dungeon music could have been a little catchier.
The story might be a little cliched and basic, but that’s not the selling point of this game. The game actually starts after the main story is finished. That’s when the extra dungeons can be explored, including an “endless” dungeon like the one in Nethack. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon isn’t so much a story or character driven game, but a exploration game. Understandably, this game isn’t for everyone, but for anyone who wants a good portable rogue game, it’s the perfect match. Just don’t be one of those people who are scared away by the Pokemon label.
