Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Preview

Phoenix Wright's prosecuting buddy tries his hand at legal melodrama.
Phoenix Wright busted his butt for Capcom, using his legal skills and defending know-how to keep innocent people out of jail. Recently, however, the company shifted towards newer characters while still keeping Phoenix involved. (For instance, in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, he was one of the wronged suspects.) Now one of the series' best-loved prosecutors will receive a shot at the lead role in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.
As a prosecutor, it's your job to find the facts and battle to win the case, seeing the differences between truths and lies that people say on the stand. This includes collecting evidence and consulting with people, including your clumsy yet loyal detective buddy Dick Gumshoe. The easygoing tone from previous games returns, with plenty of humorous dialogue and characters with over-the-top personalities. These make each case interesting to solve.
The game begins in the investigation phase. You'll question people involved with the case and check out crucial pieces of evidence before heading back to the office to piece everything together. At any point, you can drag items to an organizer to examine later, which is pertinent for finding a solution.
From there, you'll use reasoning with Edgeworth to figure things out. While some solutions are easier to find than others, no case is impossible. You must put the right clues in order, and then link them together by pressing the Logic button. Using Edgeworth's keen Deduce ability, you'll find what you need, and the shout of "Eureka!" seals your victory. Until the next wrinkle in the case pops up, that is.
Like previous games, it's important to pay attention to facts in Ace Attorney Investigations. Specific text is highlighted, so you'll want to keep it in mind as you find clues and figure things out. You'll also learn through cross-examining. Checking witnesses' facts is part of the fun, as you'll see them fidget, add to their story and, in some cases, fess up to what really happened.
Ace Attorney Investigations also looks similar to previous games. Two-dimensional and anime style characters fill the screen. In addition, expect some cheesy courtroom music in the background, along with a few voice samples straight from Edgeworth. "Not so fast!"
Capcom will make its latest case on February 16th, when Ace Attorney Investigations is set for release. We'll let you know if it raises the bar or earns a dismissal with a review.
