Paper Toss Review

Free for a limited time, leaderboard.
Only three distances, not as much fun as the real thing.
Before the Internet distracted office workers, they wasted time crumpling pieces of paper (TPS reports, we assume) and doing their best Magic Johnson impersonation by attempting a hook shot into a garbage can. The materials were easy to come by, the game was fun to play and competitions were brutal affairs followed by smack talk near the water cooler. Now there's a video game edition for iPhone and its designers failed to capture the excitement that comes from chucking a wad of tax returns into the trash, not because they screwed up development, but simply because the concept behind Paper Toss doesn't translate well to the digital world.
Your goal in Paper Toss is to throw pieces of paper into a can placed at three distances depending on the difficulty. Holding the iPhone vertically, you slide your finger from the bottom screen to the top, adding a little speed to send the paper ball further. To screw with you, Backflip Studios threw a fan into the mix that forces you to plot trajectory.
If you're good, you can post high scores to an online leaderboard, and while Paper Toss is mildly addictive, the boring concept makes the game more monotonous than enjoyable. We literally can't play for more than two minutes. That's no surprise, of course, since we prefer co-workers and a real office environment.
Thankfully, the game's free for a limited time, so there's nothing to lose downloading it unless you value every minute of life. Hopefully, Backflip adds new content whenever it ups the price. We just hope it sells for .99.
