Cult Favorite Game Series 'Shantae' is Coming to the Apple Watch
It was inevitable that games would come to the Apple Watch, but who would have thought a quality series like Shantae would be the first out of the gate?
Shantae has slowly become a cult favorite video game series, and for good reason. Its debut on the Game Boy Color wasn't a big seller due to poor marketing and coming out at the end of the GBC's life cycle. Luckily WayForward, Shantae's developer, has had quite a bit of success with the series in recent times, putting out three sequels in five years.
WayForward is paving the... way forward by bringing Shantae to unexplored territory. Watch Quest! Heroes of Time will be playable on an iPhone and an accompanying Apple Watch. The game will be available on April 24 as free-to-play with paid DLC, and the official announcement reads:
"Gameplay revolves around choosing a hero and equipping them on the iPhone, and then guiding the Hero via the Apple Watch as he or she travels lands, battles monsters, solves puzzles, and searches for treasures. Players are invited to play passively by selecting longer, easier quests and outfitting the hero up front - or by taking on more difficult quests which require foraging for items as you go.
The game comes free with one training quest, and follows a DLC model with additional characters and campaigns purchasable from within the iPhone app as Quest Packs."
Gaming on a watch? This is definitely one of those "I'm in the future" moments.
