This Enormous Game Boy Is Functional and Totally Awesome
One of the greatest draws of the original Game Boy was, of course, its portability. What happens when you take a Game Boy and make it about a hundred times bigger, then? You create something totally awesome, like the Game Boy XXL!
Hackaday user Raz has created an enormous working Game Boy that you'll need help carting from place to place. Forget using your pockets - you might need a dolly, or maybe a pickup truck! Maybe your backseat will do in a pinch. Raz made the hulking Game Boy out of 10m² of 3mm MDF, wood glue, a Raspberry Pi computer, paint, and a 19" computer monitor for the "screen" of the Game Boy itself. He also used Retropie for the software as well as a 180w laser cutter for 2D parts designed in AutoDesk AutoCAD.
This Game Boy is also purple instead of the normal slate grey, and it was available at Nintendoom, a Belgian chiptune festival. It's an extremely impressive feat to be sure. Raz should take on some other larger projects like one of those awesome-looking transparent Game Boy Colors, right? Let's all let him know to tackle that idea next, and maybe we'll see an even bigger spectacle the next time a show comes around.
