There Will Be No Autostereoscopic 3D Support For Dragon Quest VIII
One of the New 3DS's greatest features won't be included in the port of this classic game.
As you're likely well aware by now, Dragon Quest VIII is headed for release on the Nintendo 3DS (cue the fanfare, confetti, and glitter!) in Japan. We're still waiting for news on a Western release just yet, but it'll most likely happen. Now, however, there's some bad news on the horizon for eager Japanese fans - the port will not be including autostereoscopoic 3D support.
While this can understandably come as a blow to those looking forward to throwing cash down for the release, it's also a frustrating turn of events as that's one of the main (totally awesome) features that the New 3DS excels with - it manages to angle the 3D onscreen toward you depending on your viewing angle. It's a feature that will be sorely missed, especially when it comes to such a long game with so much exploration-based play.
At any rate, the game will release in Japan on August 27. There's still plenty of time to announce a Western release, Square! No one would be angry if you just went ahead and told us to expect one right now. No one at all!
