Konami Backpedals on Mobile Gaming Statements
The other day, Konami president Hideki Hayakawa made the announcement that the company would be dropping console game development in favor of pursuing mobile games. These comments were understandably quite traumatic to gamers across the world, and thus Konami has decided to backpedal -- why wouldn't they? They actually sent a letter over to Polygon apologizing to fans for causing any "anxiety" over the types of games they may be pursuing in the future.
Konami was quick to clarify that "restructuring" was necessary in order for the company to remain relevant, and made sure to reach out to outlets across the video game industry to make some very important statements, such as the following:
"Konami will continue to embrace the challenge of creating entertainment content via different platforms; across not only mobile platforms, but for home consoles, arcade units, and cards, to meet the changing needs of the times."
It's clear that Konami made the comments likely under the assumption that their remarks wouldn't be taken at face value, but who wouldn't think they said exactly what they meant? It's going to be an interesting few months as we see what Konami actually has up its sleeve.
