First Look: Yggdra Union

A new GBA RPG from the makers of Riviera

From Japanese developer STING, the same group that brought us Riviera: The Promised Land for the GBA, comes a new RPG title very much in the same vein. Yggdra Union will make its way over to North American retailers by way of Atlus, and appears to embody much of the same art style and design that we saw in Riviera.

The story of the game follows Princess Yggdra of the Fantasinia Kingdom, now under siege by the Empire of Bronkia. When the Empire's forces invade the capital, Yggdra barely makes it out alive, clasping in her hands the legendary blade of her Kingdom, known as the Gran Centurio. Together, she and a young thief named Milanor embark on a mission to liberate the once peaceful country from the treacherous Empire.

The game features a strategic combat system in which decks of Tactical Cards are used to determine battlefield movement, special attacks, and more. Over 30 different attack, defense, and support skills will be available as you progress through the game and join forces with other allies to form a union.

Look for Yggdra Union on the Game Boy Advance later this summer. We'll be back with a full review when it drops.
