First Look: Summon Night: Swordcraft Story

A two part RPG series for the GBA

Atlus revealed last week that it would be publishing both Summon Night: Swordcraft Story and Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 in North America for the Game boy Advance. Developed by Flight Plan, both titles are already available in Japan, and we managed to get a look at the first game in the series at last week's E3.

Taking place in the fantastical realm of Lyndbaum, a great tournament is being held in one of the world's largest cities, known as Wystern. In this land there exist warriors of incredible strength called Craftknights, who call forth spirits to do their bidding. The tournament will decide the next of Wystern's seven Craftlords, or governors of the city, and so the heat is on as people travel from far and wide to enter.

The most notable contestant is a young child of a legendary Craftlord named Shintetsu. Though he has entered the tournament with hopes of upholding his father's legacy, little does he know that it is only the beginning of a saga that will lead to the uncovering of Wystern's darkest secret.

Players will take control of two main characters, along with four Guardian Beasts which can be summoned. The game features a mesh of both top-view and side-view perspectives, with a real-time combat system. Additionally, players can link GBA systems for multiplayer battling and item trading.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story is scheduled for release this summer, followed by Swordcraft Story 2 in the fall. We'll have more news on both titles as it becomes available.
