First Look: Lunar Knights
Kojima's new DS title reminds of Boktai
Kojima Productions' Lunar Knights for Nintendo DS bares a bold resemblance to the team's unique vampire-hunting title on the GBA, known as Boktai. You might call it a spiritual successor, as it shares the same isometric 3D perspective and distinctive art style as the GBA games.
Other similarities can be drawn too, for instance, as one of the two characters you can control relies on the power of the sun to destroy enemies with his firearms. Sounds familiar, right? Meanwhile, the other character is guided by the moon, using swords to dispatch his opponents.
A comparable in-game day and night cycle will also be implemented, along with weather changes that will affect various aspects of the gameplay. Players can unleash a number of elemental attacks via the DS's touch screen, and even through the microphone. At various points throughout the game, the characters will take flight in 3D shooter segments, which will also require control through use of the stylus.
Similarities to Boktai aside, Lunar Knights appears to shaping up quite nicely on the Nintendo DS, even promising to support a multiplayer function of up to 2 people for the final game. Look for it at retailers sometime this winter, and check back soon for more impressions.
