Microsoft Officially Announces The Surface Pro 4
Microsoft has announced the Surface Pro 4 today, and right away I'm immediately interested despite my menagerie of iOS and Android devices around the house. It's a massively upgraded piece of equipment that's got me reconsidering whether or not I actually need one with its upgraded display and surprising new level of detail with its stylus pen -- basically, it's a brand new and very expensive toy that I probably don't need, but want very much.
The display has been updated to use what Microsoft is calling PixelSense technology, which will utilize over 5 million pixels with over 267 ppi. The brand new pen that even has an eraser will support up to 1,024 levels of pressure and will attach itself via magnet to the Surface itself. Sounds like artists may have found themselves a brand new tool to take on the go. Not to mention what's powering this bad boy: 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage that'll hold pretty much anything you need (if you hoard a lot of media like me you may run into issues, but the general public will be swimming in space.) Top it all off with a Core Intel processor to power everything and you've got yourself a very special contender.
Even the Type Cover had been revamped to go along with the tablet being supposedly 50 percent faster than a MacBook Air. The trackpad is a lot larger (40 percent to be exact) and the thinnest cover yet. It'll feature a camera with which you can log in as well as a new doc and fingerprint scanner as well.
It all sounds pretty lush, especially at its premium $899 price tag, and you can go ahead and preorder it as of today. But you might want to hold off considering you could purchase an excellent laptop at that price point. You do have to think about, however, its promises and what it'll actually do for you, as well as the fact that there's another piece of tech Microsoft pulled out today that also looks awesome.
Which device will you end up getting, or are you content to stay with what you've got?
