Check Out This Super Mario Maker Remake of an Obscure Mario Title
Don't you wanna be special?
If you've never heard of Super Mario Bros. Special I wouldn't blame you. Back in the heady days of the late '80's when we were so very young, Nintendo was into some weird things. One of those was letting third party companies have access to their IP's (something they're just now getting back into, kinky devils).
Hudson Soft made their own version of Super Mario Bros. for the NEC PC-8801 (who later made the TurboGrafx 16) and the Sharp X1 called Super Mario Bros. Special. As you can see in the video above it's a real "special" kind of game. Due to the technical limitations of the PC-8801 and Sharp X1, the screen had to redrawn when Mario reached the edge instead of scrolling.
