Apple Chose Lara Croft GO As Its Game of the Year
We knew it was a great game, but this is still a surprising development.
Lara Croft GO was an excellent riff on the Tomb Raider series, taking more complicated concepts and distilling it into the purest form of Tomb Raider that could exist. It opened up a brand new form of exploration for fans of the series and played out beautifully on mobile devices, no matter what players chose to purchase it on.
Apple has chosen the game as its iPhone Game of the Year, and that makes total sense. It's as close as you can get to a perfect puzzler, especially incorporating the Tomb Raider series, and absolutely worth checking out. It's still surprising to see it earn so many accolades.
Rounding out the list were Fallout Shelter, Mr. Jump, Dark Echo, and Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade. It's not surprising that mobile gaming has made such a splash this year, but let's hear it for Lara Croft GO, a surprising and excellent direction for the Tomb Raider series.
