Here's Your First Look At Pokemon Go
Bless you, random internet person.
Japanese testing for Pokemon Go has officially begun, and there's a whole lot of new information to mine from the test period, most of which will have you drooling over what you'll eventually get your hands on here in the west.
From data mined from the app itself and the players testing the game in Japan, we can ascertain a few things. You'll be able to create and customize your own character and assign him or her to one of three team: Red, Blue and Yellow. Weirdly enough, there's not going to be any wild Pokemon battles. Instead, all you have to do to catch a Pokemon is just tap on the touch screen to through a Poke Ball. The higher the "CP", or Capture Points are, the more difficult it will be for you to capture a Pokemon.
Pokemon may be evolved using Evolution Shards obtained via wild Pokemon encounters, and when you get enough Shards you'll get an Evolution Stone. There are tons of other items too, including Poke Balls (of course), Potions, Revives, X Defense, Berrys, Special Cameras, and more. There's even a medal system that will work in place of achievements that will be pushed to you when you capture a specific number of Pokemon or accomplish one of several other achievements in-game including steps walked, etc.
There's still a whole lot that isn't known of course, but there's also a lot of new information here that's worth dissecting. Check out the video above and then just try and wait until we hear more about Sun and Moon or Go. It's going to be a long, long month.
