Konami and TOKYOPOP Get Busy
Manga-based mobile titles on the way
Konami announced today a joint partnership with TOKYOPOP (#1 U.S. manga company) to launch a series of mobile titles based on popular manga in North America.
The first manga making the transition from print to video game will be East Coast Rising, a tale of pirates and high seas adventures. The title will have players defending New York from a group of New Jersey pirates and an assortment of evil monsters.
Two different modes of play will be featured in the game; Map Mode and Battle Mode, the former enabling high seas exploration of now destroyed East Coast cities, while the latter is obviously the transition into combat (and foes there are aplenty, so beware!).
Players can earn gold from battles to repair and re-supply their ship, as well as keeping their crew in tip top shape. Strategy and decisive planning are apparently the focuses of combat, and in what capacity will depend on the level of difficulty you choose.
East Coast Rising mobile is expected to launch sometime in early fall, with multiple levels available for download.
