Bubble Bobble Revolution
Taito's classic is making a comeback...and it ain't full of hot air.
It's that time again. Time to play an arcade classic in a whole new light. Taito has struck a deal with the folks at Rising Star Games to bring a number of their arcade favorites to the Nintendo DS in some new guise. Space Invaders Revolution seemed to work pretty good thus far, so why not? The first game that'll be coming out of the deal is set to arrive next month, and it looks to be a good time for those who enjoyed Bubble Bobble back in the day on their NES.
The new game is called Bubble Bobble Revolution, and once again it puts players in control of two dinosaurs named Bub and Bob (because Jim and Jam were probably taken). They must make their way through 100 stages in order to rescue their girlfriends, who have been taken by a dangerous spirit and are well-guarded by a number of his minions. How do Bub and Bob dispatch these dominions, you ask? Simple- they blow bubbles. They capture the enemies in these bubbles and then pop them, resulting in a defeated enemy and a fruit that can be collected. It's pretty easy to play.
The game will have classic levels mixed in with all new ones for players to discover, and along with the typical gameplay that we were introduced to in the classic game, we will also have access to all-new power bubbles and bubble attacks. These attacks will allow us to knock out enemies more efficiently, and quickly. The later levels will bump up in challenge, so this is a welcome addition to the game.
Along with the 100 levels featured in the main game, Bubble Bobble Revolution will also contain a multiplayer mode, where up to four players can join in via WiFi and help Bub and Bob with their quest to save their girls. On top of this, there will also be brand new mini-games for the cute characters to complete, along with microphone-activated challenges, where certain commands such as yelling and breathing hard will have to be completed. And for those arcade completists who can't live without the original game, relax. Taito is including that as well.
Bubble Bobble Revolution looks like it should be a lot of fun, and shall continue to give Taito a presence here in the States as far as their arcade classics are concerned. We'll be back with a full review of the game when it arrives next month. Viva la bubble revolution!
