Lycos Announces Playphone Partnership
The D2C company is powering Lycos' mobile content portal...
Lycos, the search engine-turned broadband entertainment hub, announced today that it has partnered with games-centric D2C mobile content portal Playphone to power the company's mobile portal.
The product, LYCOSmobile by Playphone (http://mobile.lycos.com) gives Lycos browsers access to Playphone's library of mobile games, wallpapers, and ringtones. The storefront is monetized via a subscription model, where $9.99 a month provides 10 credits, which can then be put towards mobile downloads.
Most games run 5-6 credits, while the top ringtones are 2 credits, falling in line with other on and off-deck storefronts. Unusued credits roll over month to month, and Lycos is currently offering 10 bonus credits to new registrants.
"We are very focused on providing our community members with the most robust content offerings on the Web, including a top-rate mobile entertainment channel," Lycos COO Brian Kalinowski said in a statement. "PlayPhone is the only company to offer a complete package including the technology that drives the online storefront plus a peerless library of games, wallpapers and ringtones."
Lycos also noted that it will promote the portal across all its sites, which include Angelfire.com, Tripod.com and Gamesville.com.
