Space Invaders DS Update
The arcade classic makes a faithful transition onto Nintendo's handheld...
European publisher Rising Star Games has announced that they will be working with Tomohiro Nishikado to bring their new Space Invaders Revolution game to the Nintendo DS in North America. CEO of development company Dreams, Nishikado is the original creator of the 1978 original Space Invaders and will be personally overseeing the development of this re-imagining of the arcade classic.
Bringing a fresh perspective on the Taito classic, this new update will also retain the same essence and quality of the original, something very important to its creator.
"Since 1978, Space Invaders has gone through many iterations; some of which have lost the spirit of the original game," says Mr. Nishikado. "With Space Invaders Revolution, I wanted the team to take the game back to its roots; whilst at the same time adding features which would appeal to modern gamers."
The game will feature a New Era mode, where the simple rules of Space Invaders are expanded into a more modern approach, adding new puzzle elements and other improvements to the classic gameplay formula. There will also be the option to play the original arcade Space Invaders, with the choice of using either the Control pad, the Touch Screen, or the stylus controls of the Nintendo DS.
With 20 different locations to choose from and 60 levels to fight through, Space Invaders Revolution promises to be a lengthy title, with a variety of different gameplay options and power-ups to acquire and use throughout.
Space Invaders Revolution will be released during Q2 2005 for the Nintendo DS.
