Ad-Subsidized Mobile Game Portal Hovr Launches
Hovr.com, an ad-subsidized free mobile game destination, went live today. The site differentiates itself from other players in the space, including early mover GameJump.com, by offering a heavy social networking element on top of its free games service.
"Advertisers are looking for new ways to get important product and brand information in front of targeted audiences," Vipul Sawhney, Hovr's president said in a statement. "At the same time, consumers want a way to get mobile content without having to pay before trying it. Hovr's technology lets the needs and desires of these two groups form a perfect marriage inside the Hovr community."
The company's "mobilespace" features encourage users to get more involved with Hovr.com and other Hovr members, by setting up a friends list and filling out a survey that includes such questions as "Any tattoos?" and "Your bedtime?" The service also tracks the gameplay stats of members.
Sawhney, Hovr's founder, previously founded wireless and mobile data products provider ActivePackets, and was vice president of technology at location-based services developer LocatioNet prior to that.
Hovr is self-funded, and is presently seeking its first round of outside investment.
