Namco to Distribute KDDI Titles in North America
Namco Networks announced today an exclusive partnership with Japanese carrier KDDI to localize and publish KDDI's mobile game catalogue in North America. KDDI specifically noted Namco's previous success localizing content from Japan as a key factor of the partnership.
"Partnering with Namco allows us to work with an established leader in the North American mobile market, ensuring the quality of the localization and successful distribution of our catalog of Japanese games to North American wireless subscribers," Takashi Nagashima, General Manager, Content and EC Division Content and Media Business Sector of KDDI said in a statement. "Publishers of KDDI's games that currently do not have distribution in the North American market can now build a presence through this relationship with Namco."
The terms of the partnership were not disclosed, and it is unclear how, specifically, this deal will impact Japanese mobile game publishers with games available on KDDI's network that are interested in pursuing other avenues for North American distribution. No titles in KDDI's catalogue have yet been announced for North American localization.
KDDI is Japan's second-largest carrier, with over 25 million domestic subscribers.
