Ubisoft Announces Jam Sessions
Mobile musos rejoiced today when Ubisoft announced the European release of Jam Sessions for the DS for the summer. The title that has been previously released in Japan as Guitar M-06, turns the DS into a strummable instrument not dissimilar from the common all-garden guitar.
"Jam Sessions is an amazing title with limitless potential to entertain and engage a wide audience of people who love music, guitar and singing," said John Parks, EMEA Marketing Director. "Basically, it's a guitar in your pocket but that's just the beginning. It's a chance for people who have never thought of themselves as 'musically inclined' to jump right in and play through entire songs, compose their own music and sing along with friends."
The lower DS screen will be used to strum and produce the "authentic sound digitally remastered from an actual acoustic guitar". The various buttons can then be used to select and modify the chord you want to play. The interface then guides the player through particular progressions to get them playing (and signing?) along to their favourite songs.
The package is rounded off by the ability to record and save your performances, "making Jam Sessions a virtual notepad for players to write, play and save their original music anytime, anywhere".
The software has been a great success in Japan, even featuring in some band's live performances. Time will tell whether it will have similar success in Europe. But with our history of quirky musical devices (ahem stylaphone ahem) it looks like this will be a big hit.
