Glu Retains PopCap Distribution Rights
Glu Mobile announced today that it has extended its publishing relationship with PopCap Games. Although the deal does not cover any new PopCap titles, Gluwill retain the worldwide distribution and publishing rights to AstroPop, Insaniquarium, and the best-selling Zuma.
The news comes at an interesting time, as PopCap recently self-published and developed its first mobile title, the puzzler Chuzzle. PopCap's internal mobile initiative is being led by Gary Kashefska, who was previously VP of Business Development at Global Wireless Entertainment (now Skinit).
It seems unlikely, given PopCap's newfound interest in tackling the mobile game space itself, that any future mobile game development or publishing duties will be licensed out. Besides Glu, PopCap has publishing and licensing relationships with EA Mobile and other mobile game companies.
"We've seen both commercial and critical success in the games we've published for mobile, and we look forward to continued success with bringing these great games to a growing global audience of mobile gamers," Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing, Glu said in a statement.
