DS Continues to Top Japanese Sales Charts
"It still prints money."
According to numbers from Famitsu and Enterbrain, a Japanese games magazine publisher, the DS has sold approximately 7.1 million units in the past year, making it the top selling console in the country.
Figures for the other consoles were also included in the reports with the Wii in second place at 3.6 million units, followed closely by the PSP at 3 million units and then finally the PS3 at 1.2 million units and the Xbox 360 at a mere 257, 000 units.
Sales for the entire industry went up 10%, totaling 687.76 billion yen (approximately $6.3 billion).
Now, if the Japanese will just go out and buy some games, maybe we'll have fewer stories about teary-eyed game developers standing next to piles of toilet paper in Akihabara.
