Atlus Announces Rondo of Swords for the DS
"...Did I just get laid?"
Atlus has just released screenshots and a website for their next big game: an epic fantasy RPG along the lines of the Fire Emblem series. Rondo of Swords promises to deliver an epic narrative, branching storylines with multiple endings and a unique control scheme that takes advantage of the DS' touch and dual-screen capabilities.
Combat will consist of the player phase/enemy phase order but with a small twist in the form of a new visitor phase that will allow guest characters to carry out actions in between the two larger phases.
Another unique feature comes in the form of a route manuever system that allows players to attack large groups of enemies at the same time. That doesn't sound too out of the ordinary, but if said route takes you through a group of allies, players will receive attack and defense bonuses from a host of different support skills -- sort of like a drive-by buffing.
An errands system will also allow players to make use of allies that they don't bring with them into battle. I'm sure most people who've played their share of RPGs have run into allies that become less useful in combat as the game progresses. This system will allow you to train these characters in order to get them up to snuff or use them to re-stock provisions, undertake sidequests or even go in search of items that will allow them to change classes.
