Hudson Reveals Exclusives for the PSP Version of Dungeon Explorer
Three's not always a crowd.
The latest installment in Hudson's long-running Dungeon Explorer series, Warriors of Ancient Wars, will feature over 150 fighting arts for players to utilize in their quest to discover a lost kingdom; of these, a select few will be exclusive to the PSP version of the game.
Dubbed Big Bang Arts, these techniques allow three players to combine their efforts and unleash a particularly destructive attack. I've always found it disappointing that most hack-and-slash games overlook any kind of meaningful combat-based interaction between players. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks had the right idea with their ko-op attacks, but the variety was somewhat limited, so hopefully Hudson's got more than 2 or 3 lined up -- attacks for two players would be definitely be a welcome addition as well. These Big Bang Arts are said to be very timing specific, so you better hope you've got some competent friends around.
The DS version of the game is scheduled for release on February 12, 2008 with the PSP version to follow on a similar date. As of now, there aren't any DS-based exclusives to speak of.
[Here's an interesting bit of info for those who care: Dungeon Explorer 2 on the TurboGrafx-CD was one of Victor Ireland's (head of former game publisher, Working Designs) earlier localization projects. He's the reason why the game had above average voice talent and dialogue for the time.]
