Fonfon Announces a New DS Detective Adventure Game (Import)
Where's the Pink Panther in all this?
Titled "Johann Ricou and the Two Missing Paintings" (rough translation), the game features two protagonists: fledgling detective, Ricou and seasoned director of the detective bureau, Johann. Players will be tasked with helping them find two paintings stolen from a museum.
Gameplay will consist of the usual puzzle-solving and investigation, but the hook is that players will stumble on to hidden pieces of art that either contain additional puzzles or are puzzles themselves and hold clues to the mystery.
There's no mention of whether Johann is playable or whether he's simply a supporting character. Based on his prominence in the game's box art though, I'm assuming you'll be interacting with him heavily in some form or another. If he's usable then this could be an interesting diversion from your usual adventure game formula by having players switch back and forth between characters to utilize different abilities. Then again, given the linearity of most Japanese adventures, it could simply be that you're given control of different characters at set story intervals.
The game is currently scheduled for a summer 2008 release in Japan. With the success of Professor Layton and the Phoenix Wright games, the market's pretty open for stuff like this right now, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a domestic release.
