Namco's Scene It Doing Extraordinarily Well
No, not "that" scene.
Namco's mobile trivia franchise has apparently hit over 17 million question downloads worldwide. Not bad for a bunch of portable game shows.
Launched over a year ago, Scene It Movie Edition was the first mobile game to feature video streaming into gameplay, and the recent TV edition has become extremely popular thanks to questions about pop culture mainstays like Grey's Anatomy and American Idol, as well as that rose-colored fellow who's fueled the success of YouTube and Family Guy, my buddy, nostalgia thanks to questions about fixtures of the '80s and '90s like Alf and Miami Vice.
"There is no question that casual trivia titles fit nicely on the mobile platform and Namco Networks recognized that the popular Scene It? DVD board game series would make for quality, fun mobile titles," said Scott Rubin, vice president of sales and marketing, Namco Networks. "The Scene It? mobile game franchise is a perfect example of how the networked nature of cell phones can be leveraged to create fun game play. It is also an example of how Namco Networks applies new technologies such as networked features when it makes sense to enhance game play."
If nothing else, this just goes to show that networked features can go a long way in really getting a new franchise going.
