Stop What You're Doing and Update Your iPhone Right Now
Seriously. Finish this article and go do it.
If you use an iPhone, you might want to go ahead and push the latest iOS update that just came out today. It could very well protect you from some particularly potent malware.
After said malware was sniffed out in the wild by activist Ahmed Mansoor, Citizen Lab and Lookout, security professionals have suggested users go ahead and update to iOS 9.3.5. ASAP. Said malware, known as Pegasus, is thought to be created by an Israeli intelligence vendor known as NSO Group, and if you find yourself having been infected with it, your phone could be at risk.
What can Pegasus do? Oh, nothing important -- just bypass the security on your iPhone and grab data like your phone calls, texts, emails, and personal information from your social networking apps. There are very serious repercussions to not performing the update, which should only take 20-30 minutes of your time while you just let the phone update.
You'll feel a whole lot better after you do.
