Pokemon Go To Add 'Abbreviated' Trading And Battling
Long awaited features are now close to seeing the light of day.
Pokemon Go may not be the cultural phenomenon it was for a while, but creator Niantic has no plans of slowing development anytime soon. The mobile AR game garnered plenty of attention when it launched for getting people out and about, collecting classic pokemon on a daily basis, but it also received a fair amount of criticism for a lack of obvious Pokemon-related features — primarily trading and battling.
Fortunately, it seems that Niantic is finally readying to introduce these long-awaited features. In an interview with Vice, Niantic CEO John Hanke spoke about what's next for the mobile game, saying, "...the priority for 'Pokémon Go' now is to build in those things that reward co-operative gameplay, and make experiences available that offer more depth than just the capturing mechanic." He goes on to explain that trading and battling features are on the way, but will arrive in an "abbreviated" form at first, and will be fleshed out over time.
I suppose the real question regarding this news is simply, 'Is it too late?' Could the addition of these features bring back waves of players who've grown tired of the collectathon, or has waiting this long for "abbreviated" versions of these features been a mistake? We'll just have to find out when these updates are finally released for Pokemon Go in the near future.
