Apple Adds New 'Indie Games' Page To App Store
The new storefront page offers greater opportunities for developers and players alike.
Players who like to get their gaming fix on-the-go (like all of us here at Modojo) are no doubt well-versed in the mobile phone games market. Apple in particular has historically provided plenty of options for mobile-oriented gamers, and that trend continues even today, as the company has recently added a new permanent page to the App Store that specifically highlights independently-developed games.
Finding the new store page is simple: after opening up the App Store, all players need to do is look for the "Celebrating Indie Games" icon on the main page. Therein, users will see a selection of titles hand-picked by the App Store editors, as well as various other titles of note that have been reported as offering "outstanding gameplay," "unforgettable stories," and "incredible sound design."
The benefit of having an indie-focused store page is two-fold: developers need their games to be seen and played in order to become profitable, and the new indie category provides an easy way for their products to reach players without getting overshadowed by bigger, more popular apps. It also means players will have a clearer way of cutting through the onslaught of freemium and pay-to-win titles to find games with new or interesting ideas. It's a win-win situation.
