Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition Coming April 11

The classic, unique CRPG makes its way to iOS and Android with enhanced visuals.

I wasn't one of the many who spent their younger years gaming on a PC, playing classics like Balder's Gate or Icewind Dale. Without regular access to a PC growing up, I spent most of my youth gaming on consoles and handhelds. When I was older and got my own PC, however, I went back to try my hand at titles I'd never played. While many of these older CRPGs didn't quite do it for me, one that stood out from the pack was Planescape: Torment. This was a game unlike any I had played before. It was presented in the same way as other Infinity Engine classics, and even had similar core gameplay, but Planescape: Torment had a unique focus on its story and characters, at the expense of all else.

This is not a game you come to for strategic combat or for trekking out across a fantasy wilderness. This is a game that wants you to soak up its unique world, its deep story, and its wonderful characters. In most scenarios you can avoid combat altogether, making it a sort of weird twist on a visual novel as much as a CRPG. Hell, there are something like three stats in the game that affect your ability to talk your way out of situations.

The Enhanced Edition of this excellent title will be releasing on April 11 for iOS and Android devices, and provides not only enhanced visuals, but UI and audio as well. You can see it in action via the trailer above.
