Cladun Returns Brings Samurai Dungeon Crawling To Vita
With a subtitle like This is Sengoku! how can you not check it out?
The Sengoku Era was a fascinating time in Japanese history, one filled with civil war and political upheaval. This age of warring states has become the setup for many great Japanese games over the years, from the classic Onimusha, which took place during its height, to, more recently, the excellent Nioh, which centered around the fallout at the end of this era. Now another game hopes to capitalize on this time period, but in a way entirely different from the previous two examples.
Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku! is the new game from Nippon Ichi Software, and hopes to take on this trying time in Japanese history through a retro, dungeon-crawling action-RPG. Cladun Returns has you enter Arcanus Cella, an afterlife where souls that are filled with regret gather before being reincarnated. The souls of feudal lords from the Sengoku Era have gathered here, and you must help them overcome their regrets so that they, and you yourself, may re-enter the cycle of rebirth.
To do this you'll travel to dungeons all across Japan and fight your way through floors of enemies using various weapons, powers, and even classes. The game also has multiplayer features, which allow you to adventure alongside a friend or compete against them. One other interesting feature of the game is a pixel editor, which allows you to customize the look of your characters and their gear.
Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku! will launch on PS Vita, PS4, and Steam on June 6.
