Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy Game Is Getting A Comic Book Prequel
Players can learn the history behind the game's plot when the comics release this summer.
Fans of video games, comic books, and circuitous consumerism will be excited to hear that Telltale Games, developer of the recently-released Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, have announced plans to release a prequel comic book based on the game they've made based on the popular comic book series.
The comic will be made in conjunction with writer Fred Van Lente, artist Salva Espin, and Marvel themselves. Since it's a comic based on a game that's based on a comic, there will understandably be a few differences between the comic universe and the game universe. That said, characters like Star-Lord and Rocket will still have their signature styles and personalities, and the universe as a whole should remain distinct yet largely-unchanged.
Speaking on a blog post over on the Marvel website, writer Van Lente gave a brief overview of the comic's plot. Potential spoilers will follow:
"[The Guardians] have to perform a rescue mission from the gladiatorial pits of Sakaar — which I wrote way before the “Thor: Ragnarok” trailer came out; I swear — that leads them to an even bigger score. I won’t give away what it is they’re after, but it sets [up] the plot of the Telltale Series nicely."
Episode 1 of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is available right now for Android and iOS, and fans will be able to read the Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series comic starting in July.
