Tokyo RPG Factory Reveal New Nintendo Switch RPG Lost Sphear
The team behind I Am Setsuna have a new game in the works, and it's coming to Nintendo Switch.
There was a point in time when nearly all popular JRPGs followed a simple formula: an isometric perspective, pre-rendered backgrounds, a solid story complete with an interesting cast of characters, and a deep battle system. Through the years, technology like full-3D and action-based battles began to take preference, and what was once an impeccable formula quickly became an outdated style. Fortunately, that classic role-playing recipe was never lost, and the bright minds over at Tokyo RPG Factory put the formula to the test with their excellent title I Am Setsuna. Now, much to the delight of old-school RPG fans, the company has announced a new classically-styled game that follows the same vein, and it's called Lost Sphear.
Lost Sphear tells the story of a young boy named Kanata who awakens from a dream to find his family and his hometown disappearing. An all-consuming mist seems to be causing the world to vanish, and together with a group of friends, Kanata set out to restore the physical realm by using the "power of memory" to turn thoughts and memories into matter.
As can be seen from the above trailer, the game features much of the familiar style players grew to love from I Am Setsuna. However, Tokyo RPG Factory has tweaked their ATB battle system in such a way as to allow players to freely adjust their unit placement during combat.
Lost Sphear will retail for $49.99, and is set to be released early next year for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
