How Subscriptions Work In Angry Birds Evolution
Learn all the must-know essentials regarding Rovio's new free-to-play title Angry Birds Evolution.
Rovio, the world-famous developer of the hit Angry Birds series of games, has finally and formally launched their latest title Angry Birds Evolution. Series fans will once again see the return of their favorite birds and other ill-tempered creatures; however, Evolution departs from the traditional formula by presenting players much more adult-oriented humor set in a game that plays out more like marbles than a physics-based destruction game.
However, one of the most perplexing changes that Angry Birds Evolution makes to the formula is the new subscription service -- players can enjoy the game for free, but those who are willing to shell out real-world cash will get several top-tier items and bonuses. Read on to discover everything we know about Angry Birds Evolution and its paid subscription service.
What's New In Angry Birds Evolution?
Angry Birds Evolution represents a fairly different style of gameplay when compared to other games in the series. Instead of having players catapult birds across a field to take down towers filled with pigs, players will now slingshot their birds around a 3D-based arena where the objective is to hit and destroy their opponents.
The game gives players access to over 100 new birds, and it appears that many of those birds are "evolutions" of other birds that players can acquire by leveling birds up. If that sounds a bit like an RPG, that's because it's meant to -- according to Reginaldo Valadares, head of Rovio's Stockholm studio, the game is partially inspired by eastern RPGs.
"RPG games are one of the key focus areas in Rovio Games," Valadares said, "and we wanted to make Angry Birds Evolution our first title inspired by eastern RPG games. Cheeky humor, deep RPG turn-based combat, fresh art style, and pop-culture references galore – Angry Birds Evolution has it all."
How Does The Angry Birds Evolution Subscription Work? How Much Does It Cost?
There's surprisingly little information available regarding the new subscription service to Angry Birds Evolution -- the game's own official website has no obvious references to the option, not even on the Angry Birds Evolution support page. However, we do know through various internet research that the service will offer up such bonuses as daily Premium Egg Tickets and a 10% boost in gold and gems when purchasing items from the in-game shop.
We also know that the subscription comes in at an unbelievably-hefty price: players looking to get the most out of Angry Birds Evolution will have to pay $24.99 a month in order to enjoy the aforementioned bonuses. In addition, players can instead choose to pick up an Eagle Card for $8.99 that will award them with 70 gems per day for 30 total days.
We can't say whether or not that price is worth it, because the value of such things is likely to be determined by the player. We can say, however, that $25 per month in order to enjoy bonuses in a free-to-play title is well outside of the norm. Traditional in-app purchases can easily add up to $25 a month, but for that price, players are usually getting a host of specific and deliberately-chosen items.
Regardless, we believe most players will be able to enjoy Angry Birds Evolution without spending a dime. Rovio has been in the free-to-play development game for some time, and their titles are popular both for overall fun factor as well as the low cost of entry.
