Counter-Strike Online Developers Launch New Squad-Based Shooter Combat Squad
Developer Nexon's new mobile shooter sees players engaging in tense 5-vs-5 online matches.
Though North American gamers might not be too familiar with the title, Counter-Strike Online managed to drum up impressive numbers of players in Asian markets. The game was much like the original Counter-Strike save for its free-to-play nature, which also included micropayments to unlock weapons. However, developer Nexon Corporation learned much in the 9 years since Counter-Strike Online's release, and they're bringing squad-based first-person shooter gameplay back into the arena with an all-new mobile title called Combat Squad.
Like with Counter-Strike, or more specifically Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Combat Squad drops players onto teams of 5 as they face off against one another in a series of fast-paced matches where players must complete various objectives. The game is set to include seven different gameplay modes, including an ever-popular zombie mode, and also includes a neat mechanic that allows players to swap between any of the active teammates on their squad.
Combat Squad initially soft-launched in specific territories a few months ago (as Combat Squad: Project Wednesday), but now the game is almost ready for its global release. North American players can pick the game up on iOS or Android devices through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Alternatively, players can check out a gameplay trailer for Combat Squad, the likes of which we have conveniently featured above.
There's no word yet on when the game will make its full global release, particularly in China, Japan, and Korea, but it seems developer Nexon does have plans to release the game in those regions soon.
