River City: Rival Showdown Landing On American 3DS Systems Later This Year
The latest River City title will celebrate the series' 30th anniversary in traditional style.
Publisher Natsume has a new Nintendo 3DS title in the works that's sure to whet the appetite of fans of the River City series. Called River City: Rival Showdown, the latest title to reach North American shores sees familiar protagonist Kunio searching for his girlfriend Riki in a race against the clock to unravel the mystery of her disappearance. Like other games in the series, Rival Showdown will see players taking out baddies in traditional side-scrolling beat-'em-up RPG style complete with the series' iconic visual style and singature humor.
The new game is slated to include a number of high-profile features, including a plot with multiple story arcs and several different endings. New special moves will appear in the form of abilities like "Turbo Stone Hands," and players will be able to make use of Rival Showdown's nifty two-player local co-op mode and several different difficulty levels. And, as an added bonus, players will be able to check out a complete bonus version of Double Dragon that will be included alongside the main game.
For all of the players who aren't quite sure what the River City series is, to say nothing of the Kunio-kun series itself, don't worry: you're not alone.
