Mr. Papi goes for a swim in Sunflat's latest and free iPhone app.
PapiJump is one of the iPhone's most addictive apps, and now Mr. Papi returns in Sunflat's equally appealing PapiRiver. Free, simple looking and addictive, it's an ideal pickup for gamers that need to kill some time and love achieving higher scores.
Much like PapiRiver, the goal is to keep Mr. Papi on the screen and rack up tons of points, except instead of jumping on platforms, you must guide him down a winding river. The longer he stays visible, the more points you earn. If he disappears off the top of the screen, you lose.
To maneuver him, you tilt the iPhone back and forth while avoiding land. Hitting it won't kill him, but it will impede his progress. Initially it's not a big deal because the river is straight, but as it gets twisted, bumping an edge will send Mr. Papi sailing out of control. Unless you have expert skills, recovering is a pain.
The game works because it's simple and lots of fun. You won't see 3-D graphics or hear a soundtrack. It's just you, Mr. Papi, a river and the goal to reach the highest score possible. Not the most advanced iPhone game, but great for getting your video game fix in a short amount of time.
In addition, you can upload your scores, but in order to do this, you'll have to leave the game and post them through Sunflat's website. While not a burden, it does prevent you from posting and then immediately re-trying the game, especially if you have a slow Internet connection. However, it's still cool seeing how you match up against fellow players, and the game awards you a letter grade depending on your score.
PapiRiver is free, it's good and you need to own it. Not only is it fun, but also a great example of the iPhone's motion sensitive technology. Sunflat, we salute you.
What's Hot: You can't go wrong with a smiley face, addictive river shenanigans, can upload high scores to online leaderboard, free.
What's Not: You cannot upload scores in game.
