Candy Catch - Halloween

Trick-or-treat, smell our feet, give us a Halloween-themed app to beat.

Halloween is a time of costumes, candy and jack-o-lanterns, but nothing gets us the mood more than a .99 iPhone app called Candy Catch-Halloween, the title of which suggests that Christmas and Valentines Day are on the way. It's a simple "achieve the high score" affair in which you guide a little costumed dude named Casey back and forth, the goal to catch falling candy corn.

In the game, young Casey, with Halloween basket in his little hands, attempts to score as much candy as possible while avoiding spiders and jack-o-lanterns. If said pumpkin falls on his head, he becomes a...wait for it...pumpkin head for a couple seconds, but donning this mask comes with a heavy price. Getting hit by one or the aforementioned spiders kills one of Casey's nine lives, appropriately represented as black cats along the bottom of the screen.

A nifty counter lets you know how much candy you grabbed, and the game's one backdrop is an attractive image of a spooky castle, a graveyard and assorted oranges and yellows.

For less than a buck, Candy Catch is a decent pickup. An online leaderboard would have been nice, but overall, it's a semi addictive and sharp looking app that's appropriate for the fall season. If we had to choose, however (and we will), we prefer Plasma, which costs the same price and has that leaderboard.

What's Hot: Sharp looking Halloween-y graphics, responsive tilt controls, nine lives gets you lots of candy.

What's Not: No online leaderboard.
