Prepare for the inevitable zombie apocalypse with this enjoyable "training tool."
Zombie Invasion is a .99 cent app that casts you as an unnamed dude charged with saving his town from hordes of undead. While not the most technologically advanced iPhone video game out there, publisher Conniption Entertainment successfully blends enjoyable touch screen controls with our favorite flesh eating monsters, creating a game that's easy to get into and most importantly, a brain splattering good time.
Your basic goal is to kill as many zombies as possible until your health runs out. Monsters descend from the top of screen, and all you have to do is touch them with your finger to send them back to hell. The game's hero points his weapon wherever you press, and you don't need to worry about aiming for the head or another specific body part. In addition, your character never leaves his position at the bottom of the screen, so you cannot dodge attacks. Just keep those pesky zombies at bay.
As you rack up kills, you'll score combos and eventually better weapons, including grenades, a shotgun and a magnum. These zombie hunting toys have limited ammo, so we suggest conserving it for later stages when numerous enemies clog the screen.
Overall, Zombie Invasion is a simple yet highly entertaining app that packs plenty of features for under a dollar. The 3-D characters sport impressive animation, the action never slows and the decent sound effects (gun blasts) set the mood. But you also have multiple difficultly levels to choose from, all time high scores as well as global leaderboards.
Top everything off with a pause feature that automatically saves your progress whenever you receive a call or text message, and you have one of the iPhone's guiltiest and more accessible pleasures. Sure, Zombie Invasion isn't the most technologically advanced game out there, but it's an addictive app that'll entertain you for a few hours. Fire up your finger and prepare to fight the zombie invasion. Your town's survival depends on it.
