SPiN: Super Shape Puzzle
Match 3-D bicycles and lollipops with their silhouettes in this marvelous iPhone game.
SPiN: Super Shape Puzzle is a cute iPhone video game that challenges you to match objects with their silhouettes. To play, simply drag your fingers across the screen to fit things in place, the goal to complete puzzles in a limited number of moves to score huge points and move onto the next stage. At first, the concept seemed unappealing, but we instantly fell in love with this app the moment we heard the cheery music.
Part of what makes this game so enjoyable is its presentation. Secret Exit, SPiN's developer, did a marvelous job infusing this app with a fun soundtrack as well as attractive 2-D backdrops full of polar bears, snowmen, candy canes and pink mountains. It's also a heck of a lot of fun, thanks to a simple and addictive concept based around an appealing risk/reward system. With both the silhouette and the object on screen (one of 100), you must figure out how to merge the two in the least amount of moves. Successfully complete a stage in one move and you'll score a "perfect" and begin a multiplier that'll net you big points, so long as you achieve double and triple perfects. Mess up (with too many moves) and your multiplier resets to zero. Run out of time, and your game ends.
In addition to playing through 100 puzzles in Arcade mode, you can learn the game's intricacies in Free Play (no timer or limited moves), Frantic (solve puzzles faster than normal) and the crazy Minute Rush (60 seconds to complete as many puzzles as you can). Along the way, you'll pick up gold and platinum stars for satisfying various conditions, as well as trophies for reaching milestones. Acquiring the Knight trophy for reaching stage ten is relative easy. Snagging the Accordion (score 250,000,000 points), however, will take lots of patience and determination, not to mention fast fingers.
Secret Exit also deserves praise for allowing players to check their iPhone batteries in game (accessed via the Pause menu), as well as the option to play in either Landscape (horizontal) or Portrait (vertical) modes. Assorted bells and whistles (loud and crisp music, excellent touch screen controls) only add to the game's overall quality and polish.
Next to Rolando, SPiN: Super Shape Puzzle is one of the iPhone's most cheerful and engaging video games. An online leaderboard would have been sweet, but considering the number of puzzles as well as the possibility for future updates, we'll let it slide. Do yourself a favor and download this wonderful distraction.
What's Hot: Super cheery music, 100 puzzles, sweet touch screen controls, colorful graphics that burst off the screen, always brings a smile to our faces.
