Santa's brains are on the line in this frantic zombie shooting game.
In Conniption Entertainment's holiday app, Shotgun Santa, a zombie virus infests the North Pole and transforms Santa Claus' helpers into flesh-eating monsters. Armed with a shotgun, grenades and other weapons, Mr. Claus sets out to slaughter his former pals and presumably, save the world.
The game plays similar to Conniption's Zombie Invasion, but with a more festive appearance. Zombies pour down the screen, and you simply tap them with your finger to end their brain-munching exploits, all the while preventing them from reaching Santa Claus, located at the bottom of the screen next to a snowman and several presents. Killing a certain number of creatures advances you to the next day, so the goal is to see how long Santa can outlast the hordes of infected elves. If they get too close and deplete Santa's life bar, it's game over; you can upload your scores to an online leaderboard.
Despite its similarity to Zombie Invasion, Shotgun Santa is the superior game because of its humorous presentation. Before starting a new game, the dangerous elves exclaim, "Look out! Santa's got a gun", and Santa follows that up with "Nobody eats Santa's brains" or "I'm going to shoot your face off. Ho, Ho, Ho!" On top of that, the developers pumped the game full of holiday tunes that'll encourage you to spread good cheer, or at the very least, splatter hundreds of zombies.
If you already have Zombie Invasion, there's little reason to spend another .99 on the Santa version, but if you own neither, this is without question the best of the two. Just seeing Santa brandishing a shotgun is enough to bring smiles to our faces, and the ability to compare scores with other players is a nice touch. Now excuse us while we protect Santa's workshop.
What's Hot: Santa's got a gun, funny dialogue, cool holiday music, addictive zombie blasting mayhem, costs .99.
What's Not: Plays exactly like Zombie Invasion.
