Flick NBA Basketball
While not a slam-dunk, this collection of NBA inspired mini-games scores from the outside.
The 2009 NBA season ended (damn Lakers), but that doesn't mean you can't play some ball. Freeverse's Flick NBA Basketball is just the ticket if you crave some outside shooting on the go. It's far from a complete basketball experience, but it's a fun time-waster that's worth the two-dollar price tag.
Flick NBA Basketball contains five events to choose from: HORSE, Three Point Shootout, Hotshot Arcade (shooting mini-balls inside of a cage, just like in an arcade cabinet at Dave and Busters), Long Shot Challenge and Ball Spin. You'll shoot threes and other shots with the likes of several NBA superstars, including Chris Paul, Lebron James, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant, Baron Davis, Shaquille O'Neal (in his old Suns colors) and more.
Some mini-games work better than others due to accuracy. You'll need to get used to a shot meter that swoops across the top of the screen, timing your shots just right to get them to drop. Once you start sinking a few, you should get used to it. The first four games are a lot of fun, especially if you play with a friend or a computer opponent. Unfortunately, the game lacks online features and leaderboards.
As for the fifth game, Ball Spin, you impersonate a pro player as he spins a ball on his finger, tilting the iPhone to keep balance while continuously swiping the screen. While not as good as the other games, it should keep you busy for a little while.
The presentation, thankfully, is on the money. Player models look realistic, particularly with jump shot animations, and the on-court action and shot meter are easy to see on the iPhone screen.
Yeah, a full NBA game would've been nice, and more could've been done to make the shot meter more reliable. Regardless, Flick NBA Basketball tickles the twine.
What's Hot: Five mini games to choose from, solid presentation, dirt cheap for two bucks.
What's Not: More focused on mini-games than actual basketball, some mini-games are better than others.
