Drop some Dominos on your iPhone.
Puzzle Domino combines the number-matching tile game with falling puzzle piece classics like Tetris and Sega's Columns. The end result is more fun than you might expect.
The goal of the game is simple. Multi-numbered dominoes drop onto a confined game board, and your job is to line up the similarly numbered tiles in threes, horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Once they're matched up, they disappear, leaving the other numbered tiles. Your game ends when the unmatched tiles reach the top of the screen.
For those who may find the game overwhelming, there's a helpful tutorial that explains the basics. Not only will you learn how to set up pieces on the board, but you'll also get tips on scoring chain reactions. These consist of eliminating numbered tiles from the board with a combo, with pieces falling strategically into place; power-ups are also available, including a bomb that blows up surrounding pieces and a Wild Block that becomes a specifically numbered tile.
Puzzle Domino's graphics remind us of Q Entertainment's Lumines games. The backgrounds constantly change with neat-looking wallpapers, varying in colors and designs. Nothing gets in the way of the action, and your dominos are easy to keep an eye on.
It's too bad the music isn't more energetic. We were expecting a stylish soundtrack along the lines of Lumines, given the game's schnazzy visuals. Instead, it's just noise. Fortunately, you can turn it off and crank your own iPod tunes instead.
We know that the iPhone has a bajillion puzzle games, but Puzzle Domino is among the best. Even if you've never played a game of dominoes in your life, you'll want to check this out.
What's Hot: Pretty graphics, gameplay is easy to get into yet hard to master, helpful tutorial, Wild Block and Bomb power-ups are actually quite useful.
What's Not: Bland music.
