Nintendo Devises New DS Strategy
The company seeks non-traditional retailers in Japan
During a recent interview in Japanese business magazine Zaikai, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata expressed his desire to bring the company's latest handheld gaming system, the Nintendo DS, into new retail channels that would heighten the appeal of the unit to the general public.
"We would like to have as many people as possible to try out the DS. For that reason, we are searching for outlets to sell the DS aside from video game stores," said Iwata. "Around the same time that I became president of Nintendo, the video game industry entered into a period where its traditional methods of market expansion were no longer working."
The Nintendo President did not outline any specific retail outlets that the company may be looking at, though it is probable we may hear more announcements made on the matter in the coming weeks.
